mosaic wall on Hanoi highway

I am in love with the loooooooooooooong ceramic mosaic mural wall that is along a highway for a length of about 4 km.

I took these photos from the back of Ms. Hue's motorbike as we zipped along, on our way from the city of Hanoi out to Bat Trang.

Ms. Hue said that the wall used to have a lot of advertising within it for various businesses, and parts of the wall have been redone to get rid of the advertising.

You can read the Wikipedia article about the wall here: Hanoi Ceramic Road

A few interesting tidbits from the article about the wall:
  • Work on the wall began in 2007 and was planned to be finished in 2010 as part of celebrating the city's Millennial Anniversary
  • The wall's idea came from Nguyen Thu Thuy's submission to a Hanoi architecture contest... this was her idea for transforming the dyke system around Hanoi
  • In 2010, the wall was confirmed by Guinness World Records as being the world's largest ceramic mosaic and awarded a certificate!
