Dao Tien Endangered Primate Rescue Center

Our 2nd morning in the Cat Tien National Park we took a short boat ride across the Dong Nai River to the Dao Tien Endangered Primate Rescue Center. There are various animals here, such as black and golden-cheeked gibbons, pygmy slow loruses, and duoc langurs.

All of the primates in the rescue center have been involved in illegal wildlife trade in Vietnam. The center takes them in to protect and rehabilitate each animal, in the hopes that they will be able to release them back into the wild.

Two of the gibbons were found together and are in the process of learning to be in the wild again... hopefully to be released in the near future. The Rescue Center will put a chip in each primate, to keep track of each for their first year back on their own. These two gibbons' names are Lucy and Khoi. The best part in that, is that we have two students at AIS... Lucy and Khoi!

Apparently, Lucy is the troublemaker of the two. She is always stealing Khoi's food and picking on him. We had a good laugh about all of this... and then were lucky enough to see them out and about in their open area, swinging around and eating fruits.

Lucy... eating fruits from her feet...

Khoi...

Real Khoi...
I wanted to hold a gibbon... but that's not allowed, so I held 'real' Khoi instead! ha
